Chinese Car Brands – The Best Of Chinese autos
Many people argue that China's manufacturing can only copy or clone cars, ipads, and other gadgets but that they cannot innovate like the west. This may be true for most cases but many companies in China do invest in research and will soon compete on a global level with their Chinese car brands. We looked at the car-manufacturers list on our site and some of the brands we covered include cars made in Germany, Italy, Japan, and USA. China could become a car-producing beast if the western economies keep slowing down and if China continues heavily into research to prove the quality of their cars. On a smaller scale, people in China have left their bicycles and chose Chinese cars.
This Chinese car industry is moving quickly, so we highlight the best Chinese car brands below. I will skip imported cars and just focus on those made in China.
Geely means "Lucky". This Chinese automotive manufacturer seems to me to have copied the look and feel of certain japanese cars like the yaris and corolla. In any case, they are known for making cars and motorcycles and are headquartered in Hangzhou. Some of the strengths mentioned about them include a "flexible operation" and an "experienced team".
Chery is a Chinese car brand that is owner by the state! They created it in 1997 and in 2011 they produced 600k cars and have been selling locally and out side of China. These Chinese cars come in many different models. The trim or size of the car is refered to as 'segment' on their website and they start with tiny car (we call them subcompact) all the way to SUV and Vans. It is said that Chery wasted some cash when they tried to create two new brands that failed to sell however, they remain a strong Chinese car brand.
Hongqi makes luxurious Chinese cars including limo's and big sedans. This Chinese car brand started in 1958 with the first model (Hongqi CA71) - it looks British to me. In fact, it was used by foreign dignitaries and party elite until 1981. Their website is in Chinese but you can see some of the images of their cars include a sedan similar to many cars we have seen on the road in other countries.
Brilliance Auto is the next Chinese auto brand we discuss today. They have a partnership with BMW and Toyota as well to produce automobiles, microvans, and minibuses. Some of the microvans use Toyota's technology. In the year 2011, they were in 8th place in China since Brilliance produced about 500k units. It is one of the best Chinese car brands. They have a separate website for BMW-Brilliance and the cars pretty much look the same in the front with the typical signature of BMW.
BYD Auto is the last popular Chinese car brand we cover here. They are based in Shenzhen and began in 1995. One thing that is interesting about BYD Auto is that they manufacture cars and rechargeable batteries. I guess they wanted to be diverse. BYD Auto is the sixth largest Chinese car brand since they made 700k units in 2010 and sold most of them but soon after, in 2011, they were not in the top ten. Now they have come back with 1.2 million units sold. Wow. The Chinese website showcases are car that looks like the Corolla and another that looks like an SUV we all know from Subaru.
